4 Ways to Get More Done in Your Work Day

As a small business owner, I’m always working: at home, in the doctors lobby, at the airport, on vacation, in the car…everywhere! Sometimes it’s hard to get that focus and really crank out high quality work to be productive because there is so much going on around me.
Here are a few thoughts on how to get more done in your day:
1. Create Your Own Background Noise: I have several branch locations and they are all noisy. When I have to work in a noisy office, I find it most effective to shut my door to drown out the sound of employee chit chat, customers, music and ringing phones. Additionally, I’ll pull up Pandora on my computer and pick a station that makes me happy. This way I’ve chosen my own noise that I can tolerate and even thrive in!
2. Lunchtime Nap: When I used to work for the State of California I would always nap during my lunch. I’d eat a little bit then jump in my car and sleep for 30 minutes and then finish my lunch. I would come back in the afternoon feeling better than ever and ready to finish the day strong!
3. Work from Home: As an entrepreneur I can work from anywhere: my corporate office; my home office; my hotel room…literally anywhere! It’s up to you to decide when and where to get the work done. When it comes to blogging, like I’m doing now…I always do it at home because I need to be able to go straight through without interruption. I put my cell phone in the other room, close my email and pound away at the keyboard and knock out that first draft without any interruptions!
4. Crank up the A/C: Nothing makes us more tired or sluggish than a hot room. Don’t let your office get hot. It puts everyone to sleep! Keep the room brisk and cool so that the team stays alert and working!
Now that I’ve finished writing this blog, I can go run errands and head to the office and tackle the million emails and voice messages that have come in the last 24 hours!
